Radish

26 days. Raphanus sativus. Open Pollinated. Golden Helios Radish. This early-maturing plant produces heavy yields of bright yellow, olive-shaped radishes with white flesh. It is a beautiful heirloom radish variety (Raphanus sativus) named after the Greek sun god. The radishes are crisp with a sweet, mild flavor. High in Vitamin C, Potassium, Vitamin B6, and Folic Acid. One of the most beautiful radishes. It is named after the Greek god of the sun. This gorgeous radish is perfect for salads, vegetable platters, gourmet dishes, dips, shish kabob, and garnishes. It is great for warmer climates as it resists spiciness and bitterness more than most red radishes. Very easy to grow. It can be grown for a spring-to-fall harvest. To extend the season, plant at one-week intervals until late summer for a fall crop. An excellent choice for home gardens and specialty market growers. A variety from the USA.

Radish Planting Information:

Plant seeds outdoors directly in the garden as soon as the soil can be worked. Radish roots do not grow well in hot summer, so plant in early spring or in the fall. Plant successive plantings every few weeks to have a steady supply of radishes. Plant 3 - 4 weeks before the last frost in spring, and 6 weeks before the first frost in fall. Plants are 2" to 6" tall.

Soil Requirements:

Requires loose, fertile soil in a well-drained location in the garden. Apply mulch and grass clippings, or straw, around the base of the plant.

Water Requirements:

Keep the soil uniformly moist and from drying out.

Fertilizer Requirements:

Use Slow Release (6 Month) Fertilizer when transplanting outdoors. Apply Miracle-Gro Liquid Fertilizer periodically.

Harvest Tips:

Dig or pull roots when they are mature. If left in the ground too long, they will crack and taste bitter.
