57 days. Brassica rapa. Open Pollinated. Purple Top White Globe Turnip. The plant produces good yields of 4- to 6"- diameter turnips. It is a popular turnip variety, prized for its smooth, round-to-slightly flattened, globe-shaped roots that are white on the bottom and bright purple on top, and for large, tender, dark green tops that are also edible and nutritious. They are deliciously sweet and tender and are great for roasting, boiling, mashing, soups, and pickling. The greens are excellent sautéed or in salads. Stores well. Excellent choice for home gardens. United States Department of Agriculture, PI 662692. A pre-1880 heirloom variety from the USA.
