When the backs turn yellow, cut the flower, and let it dry upside down. For high wind regions, it is recommended to stake the plants to protect them from wind damage. Easy for kids to grow. This sunflower is so tall you will need a big ladder to reach it, and even then you won't be able to reach the top! The yellow flowers are humongous, 14" wide by 4" thick, with orange-to-green centers. When the backs turn yellow, cut the flower, and let it dry upside down. The seeds are edible and great for roasting. Watch for the birds who love the seed at the end of the season. This plant attracts bees, butterflies, and birds.
