It is a popular heirloom eggplant variety prized for its giant size, productivity, flavor, and heat and drought tolerance. Aswad means black, which is the colloquial term for eggplant in its native Iraq. It held the Guinness World Record for heaviest eggplant at over 11 lbs. Very flavorful.
