It is a popular hot pepper variety prized for its striking appearance, earliness, adaptability, and flavor. Peppers are mildly hot, grow upright, have medium-thick flesh, and turn from green to black to red when mature. The plant has fuzzy green stems, fuzzy green leaves, and purple flowers. Excellent for making salsa, fresh eating, cooking, pickling, or drying. Also known as Czech Black Pepper. Excellent choice for home gardens. United States Department of Agriculture, PI 653625. A variety from the Czech Republic (formerly Czechoslovakia). Scoville Heat Units: 1,000.
