70 days. Physalis peruviana. Open Pollinated. Aunt Molly's Ground Cherry. This early-maturing plant produces heavy yields of ¾" cherry-sized, flavorful ground husk cherries. A popular heirloom ground cherry variety, widely praised for prolific production and sweet-tart flavor. This Ground Cherry is one of the sweetest and most fruit-tasting, turning from green to golden orange when mature. The flavor is sweet-tart with tropical notes often described as pineapple, vanilla, citrus, or a mix of pineapple and tomato/grape. Excellent for making jam, pies, preserves, fruit salads, smoothies, or fresh eating. It was first recorded around 1837 and long grown by Pennsylvania Dutch gardeners. Stores well up to 3 months in the husk. Also called Husk Cherry. An excellent choice for home gardens. An 1800s heirloom variety from Poland.
