It is very sweet, very flavorful, and very tender with no trace of woodiness. They can be eaten raw, used in coleslaw, cooked, or used in Hungarian soups. Kohlrabi does best in cool weather with abundant moisture to prevent the edible portion from becoming tough and woody. Plant your seeds indoors 4 to 6 weeks before setting them outside. Spring planting should occur as soon as the soil can be worked and after the last frost. Fall planting should be done in June, July, or August. Plants grow 9 - 12" tall.
Requires fertile soil in a well-drained location in the garden. Apply mulch, grass clippings, or straw around the base of the plant.
Water well during dry and hot spells.
Use Slow Release (6 Month) Fertilizer when transplanting outdoors. Apply Miracle-Gro Liquid Fertilizer every two weeks.
Harvest when bulbs are 3" in diameter.
