60 days. Raphanus sativus. Open Pollinated. China White Winter Radish. The plant produces excellent yields of 6 to 8" long radishes. It is a popular heirloom winter radish variety prized for its crisp flavor that does best in cool-season weather and is best grown for fall/winter harvest. The white flesh is crisp, juicy, and pungent, but milder and less pungent than many other radishes. Great for pickling, sprouts, or fresh in salads. Very easy to grow. Stores well. For best results, plant winter storage radish in mid to late August. Also known as Chinese White Winter Radish. Excellent choice for home gardens and market growers. A 1800s heirloom variety from China.

Radish Planting Information:

Plant seeds outdoors directly in the garden as soon as the soil can be worked. Radish roots do not grow well in hot summer, so plant in early spring or in the fall. Plant successive plantings every few weeks to have a steady supply of radishes. Plant 3 - 4 weeks before the last frost in spring, and 6 weeks before the first frost in fall. Plants are 2" to 6" tall.

Soil Requirements:

Requires loose, fertile soil in a well-drained location in the garden. Apply mulch and grass clippings, or straw, around the base of the plant.

Water Requirements:

Keep the soil uniformly moist and from drying out.

Fertilizer Requirements:

Use Slow Release (6 Month) Fertilizer when transplanting outdoors. Apply Miracle-Gro Liquid Fertilizer periodically.

Harvest Tips:

Dig or pull roots when they are mature. If left in the ground too long, they will crack and taste bitter.
