Winter Squash Planting Information:

Winter Squash need warm weather to grow. It is best to plant seeds directly in the garden. Plant your seeds after the soil has warmed up. Thin so there are 4 plants per hill. Eight to 10 plants will provide more than enough for a large family. You can trellis squash to save space. Plants grow 2 ft tall, and vines spread up to 10 ft.

Soil Requirements:

Requires fertile, slightly acid soil in a well-drained location in the garden. Apply mulch, grass clippings, or straw around the base of the plant. Add well-composted manure.

Water Requirements:

Keep soil consistently moist, but not waterlogged. Water well during dry and hot spells.

Fertilizer Requirements:

Use Slow Release (6 Month) Fertilizer when transplanting outdoors. Apply Miracle-Gro Liquid Fertilizer every two weeks.

Harvest Tips:

Protect ripening winter squash from damp ground by placing them on boards. Cut winter squash carefully from the plants to prevent damaging the vines.

56 days. Phaseolus vulgaris. Open Pollinated. Jade II Bean. This early maturing bush plant produces high yields of 7" long, deep green beans. It is a highly regarded variety of green snap bean known for its excellent flavor, productivity, and disease resistance. It is one of the best-tasting beans ever grown. Remarkably flavorful. Great variety for freezing or canning. This variety does well even under high temperatures. Very sweet and tender. The upright plant keeps the pods clean, straight, and off the ground. The seeds need warmer soil to sprout, so delay planting until well after the last frost date, and the soil warms. The plant produces beans later in the season than other varieties and is excellent as a second-harvest crop. Plants continuously keep bearing over a long period during the season. Heat Tolerant. An excellent choice for home gardens, Farmer's Markets, market growers, and commercial growers. United States Department of Agriculture, W6 26701. A variety from the USA.
