85 days. Capsicum annuum. Open Pollinated. Thunder Mountain Longhorn Pepper. The plant produces high yields of 10" long by ¼” wide Cayenne peppers. It is a popular hot pepper variety prized for both a productive culinary pepper and a striking ornamental pepper in the garden due to the dramatic length and curly shape of the pods. Peppers are hot, have thin flesh, and turn from green to red when mature. It has a more complex flavor and is better-tasting than standard cayenne, with fruity, sweet, earthy notes and good depth. Excellent when dried (traditionally sun-dried, then smoked for powder or flakes). The plant has green stems, green leaves, and white flowers. Excellent for stir-fry, pepper flakes, and for making seasoning spice powder. A very rare variety from Guizhou, China, specifically associated with the Leigongshan “Thunder Mountain” area. Hot Pepper Planting Information:

Some hot pepper varieties come from tropical, humid regions, while others come from dry desert regions. Temperature, moisture, and air circulation all play a role in growing plants from seed. Too little heat, too much moisture, and poor air circulation can cause poor results. Do not use Jiffy peat pots, plugs, or potting soil, as the soil can become too dry or too wet, which can lead to disease and fungus. We have experienced disease and low germination when using these types of products. Use Miracle-Gro Seed Starting Material for the best germination results. Soil Requirements:

Requires fertile soil in a well-drained garden location. Apply mulch, grass clippings, or straw around the plant's base.

Water Requirements:

Water thoroughly with soaker hoses during dry, hot spells.

Fertilizer Requirements:

Use Slow-Release (6-month) Fertilizer when transplanting outdoors. Apply Miracle-Gro Liquid Fertilizer every two weeks.

Harvest Tips:

Harvest hot peppers when fully mature using garden scissors to avoid damaging the plant. Pick peppers as they mature to encourage new buds.
