Radish

50 days. Raphanus sativus. Open Pollinated. Munich Beer Radish. The plant produces excellent yields of oval-shaped radishes. They are crispy and mildly pungent. Traditionally, it is thinly sliced, seasoned with salt, and served with beer. Served as a refreshing snack in the beer gardens of Germany and during the Oktoberfest. Best planted in summer for fall harvest. Stores well. Also known as Munchner Bier Radish. Excellent choice for home gardens. An old heirloom variety from Germany.

Radish Planting Information:

Plant seeds outdoors directly in the garden as soon as the soil can be worked. Radish roots do not grow well in hot summer, so plant in early spring or in the fall. Plant successive plantings every few weeks to have a steady supply of radishes. Plant 3 - 4 weeks before the last frost in spring, and 6 weeks before the first frost in fall. Plants are 2" to 6" tall.

Soil Requirements:

Requires loose, fertile soil in a well-drained location in the garden. Apply mulch and grass clippings, or straw, around the base of the plant.

Water Requirements:

Keep the soil uniformly moist and from drying out.

Fertilizer Requirements:

Use Slow Release (6 Month) Fertilizer when transplanting outdoors. Apply Miracle-Gro Liquid Fertilizer periodically.

Harvest Tips:

Dig or pull roots when they are mature. If left in the ground too long, they will crack and taste bitter.
