Winter Squash Seed Planting Information:

Winter Squash need warm weather to grow. It is best to plant seeds directly in the garden. Plant your seeds after the soil has warmed up. Thin so there are 4 plants per hill. Eight to 10 plants will provide more than enough for a large family. You can trellis squash to save space. Plants grow 2 ft tall, and vines spread up to 10 ft.

Soil Requirements:

Requires fertile, slightly acid soil in a well-drained location in the garden. Apply mulch, grass clippings, or straw around the base of the plant. Add well-composted manure.

Water Requirements:

Keep soil consistently moist, but not waterlogged. Water well during dry and hot spells.

Fertilizer Requirements:

Use Slow Release (6 Month) Fertilizer when transplanting outdoors. Apply Miracle-Gro Liquid Fertilizer every two weeks.

Harvest Tips:

Protect ripening winter squash from damp ground by placing them on boards. Cut winter squash carefully from the plants to prevent damaging the vines.

Best squash I have ever grown! I planted it 10 years ago for the first time and every year since.  Nice sweet flavor (more like a pumpkin) and it keeps well.  I bake all my pies and pumpkin cakes using this squash. Greetings from Cashmere, WA U.S.A.

I grew the Mooregold Squash plants this season. They were nice size and the yield was average. The flavor was wonderful. Creamy texture, not stringy like my other squash. Took some into my work and shared them. Everyone agreed it was the tastiest squash. If you like Bonbon Squash, you'll love this squash! Sincerely Debbie from Minnesota, USA
