Planting Instructions
Scarification: Soak in water, then let stand in water for 24 hours.
Cold Stratification: Refrigerate for 120 days, then warm stratify for 120 days, and then another cold stratify for 120 days to improve germination. These high-quality premium American Ginseng seeds are stratified, bleach-treated, and float-tested to support high germination rates and help prevent disease.
Planting Instructions: Plant seeds 1" deep, 6" apart, typically mid-September to late October and early November. Cover lightly with a thin layer of soil and water gently. Then mulch with 1 to 4" of hardwood leaves. Straw can substitute. While ginseng plants appreciate moist soil, they don’t thrive in overly saturated ground. Ensure proper drainage to avoid root rot. Standing water promotes disease.
Plant Thinning: Thin plants to 3 to 6" apart, rows about 6 to 9" apart.
Soil Facts: Requires well-prepared soil. Fertile, organic soil is ideal for ginseng cultivation. The pH should be between roughly 5.0–6.0 for optimal growth. Consider adding organic matter, such as compost, to enrich the soil.
Fertilizer: Use a general-purpose fertilizer when preparing the soil.
Germination: 18+ months from fresh seed to germination. Requires 16 weeks for full maturity. Patience is essential.
