80 days. Phaseolus vulgaris. Open Pollinated. Turkey Claw Bean. This pole plant produces high yields of flavorful 6" long light green beans. It is a popular heirloom pole bean variety with Appalachian roots, dating back to around 1802, in regions such as Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina. Great for soups, baking, steaming, canning, freezing, snap beans, and dry beans. The stringless pods are best when picked 3 ½” long. As the tale goes ... a hunter removed a bean from a turkey’s craw. He later planted the seed and preserved the variety, thus the name Turkey Craw. A heirloom variety originating from the Cumberland Gap Region of the USA.

Plant your bush bean seeds outdoors directly in the garden after your last frost date. For a quicker start, you can soak your seeds for 1 to 4 hours in warm water. If you soak the seeds for too long, they will split, rot, or may not germinate! Germination is improved when soil temperature is above 65°F. Plant in 2 to 3 week intervals for a steady harvest until about 3 months before the first killing frost in the fall. Plants can grow 12 to 24" tall.
Warning: Do not plant in cold, wet soil, or you may experience poor germination!
Requires rich, fertile soil in a well-drained location in the garden. Apply mulch, grass clippings, or straw around the base of the plant.
Beans do not like soil that is too moist. Water during dry and hot spells.
Use Slow Release (6 Month) Fertilizer when planting outdoors. Periodically apply Miracle-Gro.
Pinch or cut the pods off carefully to avoid damaging the plant. Pick every few days for tender beans. Frequent harvesting also encourages plants to produce more pods.
Days to Harvest after Planting Outdoors: 50 to 65 days
Use Miracle-Gro© Seed Starting Mix for best germination results.
