These compact plants are ideal for small gardens or containers. An excellent choice for Northern gardeners. An heirloom variety that was developed in 1948 by the University of Minnesota to accommodate shorter growing seasons and cool regions. Cantaloupe & Melon Planting Information:

Plant seeds directly in the garden. Plant the seeds when the soil has warmed up. The seeds may rot and not sprout if the soil is too cool. Germination is improved when soil temperature is above 60°F. Plant the seeds in hills. Plants grow 1 ft tall and vines spread up to 10 ft.

Soil Requirements:

Requires fertile soil in a well-drained location in the garden. Apply mulch, grass clippings, or straw around the base of the plant.

Water Requirements:

Water the plants well during dry and hot spells. Make sure plants get 1" of water per week.

Fertilizer Requirements:

Use Slow Release (6 Month) Fertilizer when transplanting outdoors. Periodically apply Miracle-Gro.

Harvest Tips:

Protect ripening melons from damp ground by placing them on boards. Cut melons carefully from the plants to prevent damaging the vines.

Have continued to grow these melons at the base of the Bearlodge Mountains in 2012. Seeds emerged from the winter and survived a 26 F nights and are growing strong!

Minnesota Midget is the only melon we have found that reliably matures here in northern Nevada where nights are cool and growing seasons are unpredictable. We like the small size, perfect for two. Was glad to find Midgets at Reimer Seeds. Jan D, Nevada
