Endive is a curly leaf plant and is very easy to grow. It is very hardy and is frost-resistant. It does well even in rainy regions. Endive doesn't do well in very hot weather. You can have successive plantings throughout the year. In the spring, plant seeds 4 weeks before the last frost date. Plant in August for a fall harvest. Endive seeds are usually planted directly in the garden. Plant your seeds as soon as the soil can be worked. Plants grow 3 - 9" tall.
Requires fertile soil in a well-drained location in the garden. Apply mulch, grass clippings, or straw around the base of the plant.
Keep soil consistently moist. Water well during dry and hot spells. Water on the side of the plants and not directly on the leaves.
Use Slow Release (6 Month) Fertilizer when transplanting outdoors. Apply Miracle-Gro Liquid Fertilizer every two weeks. Side dress plants with compost and manure.
You can cut outer leaves as you need them if you want the plant to produce more leaves, or you can cut the entire plant at ground level.
