Helianthus annuus. Annual. Open Pollinated. The plant produces a stunning display of radiantly 8" flowers in deep yellow, gold, brick red, orange, and burgundy. This is an edible flower in which flower buds can be fried and the petals are used as a garnish in salads and desserts. The flavor is bittersweet. An excellent choice for cut flowers. Great food source for small birds. Enjoy the beauty of fall colors throughout the summer. Flowers bloom over a long period. Excellent choice for home gardens. A variety from the USA.

Flower Seed (Annuals) Planting Information:

Annual flowers do best when planted indoors and transplanted outdoors when danger of frost has past. Plant your seeds indoors, 5 to 7 weeks before setting outside. For tiny seeds, do not cover with seed starting mix. Just sprinkle the seeds on top. Transplant them outside in garden when seedlings are established. Plants can grow 1 - 3 ft tall.

Soil Requirements:

Requires fertile soil in a well drained location in the garden. Apply much and grass clippings, or straw around base of plant.

Water Requirements:

Water well during dry and hot spells.

Fertilizer Requirements:

Use RootBlast, Vegetable Alive, and Slow Release Fertilizer when transplanting outdoors. Apply Miracle Gro periodically.

Harvest Tips:

Snip the stems with garden scissors when flowers are in full color.
