Young leaves are processed to make tea and green tea beverages. It is used for medicinal use too. Tea stimulates the central nervous system, is diuretic and astringent, relaxes smooth muscles, and increases coronary flow. It has significant anticancer and antioxidant effects and even has been shown to prevent tooth decay on account of its high fluoride content. Can be grown indoors in containers. A variety from India.

Planting Instructions: Cold stratify for 60 days. Soak in hot tap water, and let stand in water for 24 hours. Seeds should be cracked before planting! Upon arrival, seeds should be planted immediately. Plant the seed twice as deep as the thickness of the seed, or 1 to 2" deep. Best of started indoors in plastic containers and transplanted into larger pots as the plant grows. Do not over-water seeds! Keep the potting mix moist, but not too soggy.
