Info:

Tobacco plants should be started indoors or in a greenhouse 6 to 9 weeks before last frost. Plant your seeds between January and March. Place the Miracle Gro Seed Starting Mix in the planting flats. Water the seed starting soil generously and allow the excess water to drain off. Let the seed starting mix to sit over night. Sprinkle the tobacco seeds on the damp seed starting mix the next day. Do not cover the seeds. Keep the soil moist, but do not over water the seeds. Over watering the seeds can make them become displaced and also can cause bacteria or fungus to grow. When plant is 6" or taller, transplant them outdoors in garden. Only plant tobacco outdoors on a cloudy day, just prior to getting rain. Water daily until the plants have become established. Plant outdoors when soil is warm, at least 2 weeks after last frost, and when temperatures remain above 70 F. A good idea is to transplant them where leaves and wood have been burned. Plants will thrive in these areas. Try not to disturb the soil around the plants when cultivating or hoeing. You could damage the roots if you cultivate too close to the plants. Plants can grow 3 - 5 ft tall.

Soil Requirements:

Requires fertile soil in a well drained location in the garden. Apply much and grass clippings, or straw around base of plant.

Water Requirements:

Water during dry and hot spells.

Fertilizer Requirements:

Use RootBlast, Vegetable Alive, and Slow Release Fertilizer when transplanting outdoors. Apply Miracle Gro periodically.

Harvest Tips:

You can cut leaves when they are mature. Dry the leaves thoroughly. Many commercial growers dry the plants by hanging them in tobacco barns.
