Chives are grass-like onions that have tiny purple flowers which makes a nice border plant. Chives are a perennial plant and will grow for years. Chives can be planted directly in the garden or started indoors. Spring planting should occur as soon as soil can be worked. Harvest by cutting leaves with scissors. Plants can grow 8 to 12" tall.

Soil Requirements:

Requires fertile soil in a well drained location in the garden. Apply much and grass clippings, or straw around base of plant.

Water Requirements:

Chives are drought tolerant.

Fertilizer Requirements:

Use RootBlast, Vegetable Alive, and Slow Release Fertilizer when transplanting outdoors. Apply Miracle Gro every 2 weeks.

Harvest Tips:

Harvest by cutting stems with scissors.
