It is a popular cucumber variety prized for its mild, sweet, burpless flavor, thin, tender skin (no peeling needed), crisp texture, and high productivity. A smooth-skinned Middle Eastern cucumber with dark green skin. It is parthenocarpic, meaning it doesn't require pollinators and can therefore be grown in greenhouses. The flesh is crunchy, the skin is so mild it doesn't need to be peeled, and it has very few seeds. It is usually picked small, at 5 to 6" long. It can be used for pickling or sliced in salads. Long shelf life. It is one of the most disease-resistant cucumbers on the market. A burpless cucumber developed in the 1930s by Hanka Lazarson in Israel and named after their kibbutz (village), Beth Alpha.
